Addressing Youth Loneliness: A Growing Concern

Loneliness is now seen as a major health threat. The World Health Organization (WHO) has highlighted this issue, especially among Generation Z (Gen Z).

This generation, born between the late 1990s and early 2010s, is facing the brunt of this challenge. Even with more technology connecting people, loneliness is rising.

A recent CNA documentary titled “Gen Z & Lonely In The Philippines: Why Do Filipino Youths Feel So Alone?” delved into this issue, particularly in the Philippines.

It explored why so many young Filipinos are feeling increasingly disconnected, despite living in a time where we are more digitally connected than ever.

During the pandemic, many felt isolated. Gen Z was hit hard. Chatbots became a surprising source of comfort. Some users described these bots as genuine friends during their lonely moments. They provided emotional support when real-life interaction was limited.
